New Delhi: Instagram, a social media platform owned by Meta, is preparing to challenge Twitter, which is currently run by Elon Musk. They are developing a micro-blogging text platform similar to Twitter, expected to be launched by the end of June. The platform, currently codenamed P92 or Barcelona, aims to provide a space for conversations through text-based communication.

According to reports, the new Instagram app description states, “Say more with Instagram’s new text-based app for conversations. Talk directly with your audience and peers.” The app will allow users to create posts using text and include links, photos, and videos. It also emphasizes the ability to engage with likes and replies, facilitating deeper connections with friends, fans, and other creators.

The app appears to combine elements of both Instagram and Twitter, offering a unique experience to users. Additionally, the description mentions future compatibility with other apps, such as Mastodon, suggesting a broader integration strategy.

Users will have control over their interactions on the platform, as the app will provide settings to manage who can reply to them and mention their accounts. Account blocking functionality from Instagram will carry over to the new app, and the same Community Guidelines will be enforced to ensure safe and authentic interactions.

Furthermore, the app will allow users on other platforms to search for, follow, and interact with public profiles and content. Private accounts can approve followers from these platforms.

Overall, Instagram’s upcoming text-based app aims to enable users to create Twitter-like posts on a timeline, expanding the possibilities for expression and interaction within the Instagram ecosystem.
