New Delhi: Before Google’s annual I/O developer conference in May, there were reports that Google let go of some of its staff from teams working on important projects like Flutter, Dart, and Python. Employees who were affected talked about this on social media. Google confirmed the layoffs but didn’t say which teams or how many people were let go.

A Google spokesperson said they’re making changes to focus on their main goals and future opportunities. This means they’re reorganizing to work more efficiently and putting resources into their biggest projects. They said these layoffs are normal in a companies like Google. People who lost their jobs can apply for other jobs at Google, said Google.

Some employees said on Reddit a social media platform, that many teams including those working on Flutter, Dart, and Python, were affected. But Google reassured everyone that they’re still committed to these projects and will announce updates at the I/O conference.

People also talked about the Python team. They said some of them lost their jobs, including core developers and steering council members. They worried about what this might mean for Python’s role in AI. But it seems Google replaced this team with a new one based in Munich.

Google filed a notice saying it was letting go of 50 employees in different places. According to sources, around 200 people were laid off from Google’s “Core” teams, which include those working on Python and other important projects. Some jobs are moving to India and Mexico.
