New Delhi: Google Wallet now has a new feature that lets you create digital passes for almost anything using AI, including IDs, tickets, and other types of passes. If you enjoy storing passes in your phone’s wallet, it can be annoying when you have to use a different app or a saved PDF instead. But now, Android users have a better option with Google Wallet, which uses AI to make a digital pass with all the necessary details, just like any other pass.
This feature was announced by Google at its I/O conference in May and replaces the old “Photo” option in the “Add to Wallet” menu. Before, the old option could only create a simple pass that showed a barcode or QR code. The new option, called “Everything Else,” can help you avoid digging through emails for a PDF or using your healthcare app to find your insurance card. Google Wallet’s AI-generated passes can be used for many things, like business cards, IDs, library cards, loyalty cards, passports, and vehicle registrations. However, it’s currently only available in the US.
When you choose “Everything Else,” the app asks for permission to process your sensitive information using Google’s AI and organizes it into categories like private pass, health pass, or driver’s license. You can then take a picture of the pass, and after it’s processed, you can adjust any details or categories that need fixing before approving the final version.
Google has provided instructions for using this feature, and it started rolling out earlier this month. While some devices, like the Galaxy Note 20, already have it, others, like the Pixel 6, may not have access yet. However, it should be available on more devices soon.
