New Delhi: Tamil Nadu budget for 2025-26 was tabled by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, emphasizing greatly on empowering women. The budget brings in significant initiatives to increase women’s entrepreneurship and facilitate property holding for them.
Support for Women Entrepreneurs
Realizing the crucial contribution of women to the economy of the state, the government is launching a big scheme to make one lakh women entrepreneurs in the next five years.
Women will receive proper training and counseling to enable them to start and develop their businesses, the scheme will facilitate them in getting bank loans up to ₹10 lakh, a 20% subsidy will be provided to reduce financial stress.
To make this happen, the government has set aside ₹225 crore for the 2025-26 financial year and to encourage women to own property, the government has decided to cut registration fees:
Women buying houses, plots, or agricultural land will pay 1% less in registration fees, who Can Benefit? This discount applies to properties worth up to ₹10 lakh, when does it start? The lower charges will come into force from April 1, 2025, the government anticipates almost 75% of all the property registrations will avail themselves of this step towards bringing financial freedom and security for women.
Increased support through welfare schemes:
The Finance Minister further emphasized initiatives to extend existing schemes benefiting women. The Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT) scheme, providing ₹1,000 a month to eligible women, will include additional beneficiaries. Currently, nearly 1.15 crore women are getting this monetary assistance, other current schemes such as Self-Help Groups, Vidiyal Payanam (free bus travel facility), Pudhumai Penn (scholarship support), and Thozhi (working women’s hostels) also continue to leave a significant mark. These initiatives have been largely welcomed for enhancing the lives of women in Tamil Nadu.
With these new and ongoing initiatives, the government plans to build a more financially empowered and independent future for women in the state, supporting Women Entrepreneurs Nationally.
