Mr. Jai Sreedhar, CEO & Joint Managing Director of Rosetta

“India’s domestic tourism potential is immense; however, it has not been completely explored. This sector presents a huge opportunity for various stakeholders involved in domestic tourism to grow the business exponentially.

It is heartening to see that the government is interested in tourism and developing destinations, not just by increasing connectivity but enhancing the overall experience. They are looking at creating a holistic experience by focusing on allied services such as guides to famous tourist places, food stalls, and food vendors.

The other initiative by the government, which is commendable, is the skill development program. There is a severe shortage of skilled workforce in the tourism industry, and any attempt to increase the skill quotient of the youth, contributing to any segment of tourism, be it hotels, transportation or local experiences, will create a huge opportunity in this sector to create jobs and provide employment.”

Sakshi Sawant, Social Enterpreneur, Maati Nature Resort

“For a surging travel and tourism industry post the pandemic, the Budget booster to the sector will increase the tourism potential of under-developed or undeveloped micro tourism pockets in the country, develop undiscovered tourist spots into full-grown tourist destinations, especially in smaller towns and villages, create tech-enabled innovative tourism assets and bring more entrepreneurship by creating job opportunities for youth. Selecting 50 tourist destinations for domestic and international tourism will spin the local economy and help increase foreign exchange inflows. The Unity Mall seems to be a unique concept that will compel all the States to create prominent tourism centres. The One District – One Product Scheme will help the local craftsmen, and the GI – mark will enhance their market prospects. For instance, the fastest growing tourism places like Sindhudurg may benefit perfectly with such pro-tourism initiatives where new tourism spots could be developed and promoted, and local youth and craftsmen could get better prospects.”

In such a situation, post-pandemic and India’s emerging impactful economic growth by focusing more on ‘Make in India’ has driven the world’s attention. Also, it’s likely the public expects that the country’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced wisely of all sections of the society and merely has managed to balance the Budget 2023-24.

The finance minister’s budget is well-balanced and supports inclusive development. Agriculture is critical to India and the FM has made several welcome announcements for the sector. The Agriculture Accelerator Fund will encourage agri-startups in rural areas. The Atmanirbhar Clean Plant Program will boost the availability of disease-free and quality planting material for high-value horticultural crops. The focus on promoting millets will encourage more farmers to grow millets. The setting up of Centres of Excellence for AI will help in developing scalable problem solutions for agriculture and other areas. The increase in the agriculture credit target to Rs. 20 lakh crore also shows the government’s commitment to crores of farmers.
