New Delhi: Anticipated to surpass its 2019 record of 28,360 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signings, the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat summit, scheduled to commence this Wednesday, signals a remarkable recovery for the state following the cancellation of the 2021 edition due to pandemic restrictions. Rahul Gupta, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Gujarat Industries Development Corp, expressed optimism about breaking previous records.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the summit on Wednesday, being in Gujarat from Monday until January 10. Addressing rumors of a potential MoU with Tesla, Gupta clarified that while there is no confirmed agreement, the Gujarat government is open and welcoming to any decision by Tesla to participate.
Prominent industry leaders, including Lakshmi Mittal of ArcelorMittal, Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Anil Agarwal of Vedanta Group, Uday Kotak, and Sameer Nigam of PhonePay, are expected to participate in this edition.
The summit’s history reveals growth, with 2015 seeing 21,304 MoUs and 2017 recording 24,774 deals, of which approximately 70% materialized. Officials express optimism that 90% of this year’s MoUs will come to fruition.
The event is also poised to strengthen India-UAE ties, with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan attending as the chief guest on January 9, following PM Modi’s visit to the COP28 summit in Dubai in December.
Focusing on cutting-edge technology, the summit will delve into sectors such as semiconductors, green hydrogen, e-mobility, and space manufacturing. With over 100,000 registrations – a significant increase from 48,000 in 2019 – and 32 partner countries compared to 15 in 2019, this edition is poised to break records.
Initiated in 2003 under then Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit continues to be a key platform for fostering economic collaborations and showcasing technological advancements.
