New Delhi: The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, engaged with the Christian community during the Christmas celebration at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi. He extended his greetings to everyone, especially the Christian community, expressing gratitude for their presence on this special occasion. The Prime Minister acknowledged the Indian Minority Foundation’s proposal to celebrate Christmas together. He reminisced about his longstanding warm relations with the Christian community, dating back to his time as Gujarat Chief Minister.
Reflecting on the values of compassion and service embodied by Jesus Christ, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive society based on justice. He underscored the shared values among different social streams, citing the Holy Bible’s emphasis on service and truth, aligning with India’s cultural heritage and the teachings of the Upanishads.
PM Modi recognized the significant contributions of the Christian community to India, praising their involvement in the freedom movement, intellectual leadership, and active participation in social services, education, and healthcare. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the benefits of development reach all segments of society, including the Christian community.
Addressing India’s aspiration to become a developed nation by 2047, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the youth’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. He urged community leaders to promote awareness about fitness, nutrition, and the campaign against drugs.
Focusing on sustainability, PM Modi highlighted the Mission LiFE movement, encouraging a pro-planet lifestyle. He urged the socially conscious Christian community to play a significant role in promoting sustainable practices, including reusing, recycling, and supporting local products.
The Prime Minister also advocated for the “Vocal for Local” initiative, urging the Christian community to promote and support locally made products. He expressed the hope that the festive season would strengthen national unity and wished for prosperity, happiness, and peace in the coming year.
Prominent members of the Christian community, including Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Anju Bobby George, Archbishop Anil Couto, and John Varghese, shared their perspectives and thanked the Prime Minister for his leadership. They acknowledged India’s global standing under PM Modi’s guidance and expressed optimism for the nation’s future.
