New Delhi [India], April 29: India continues to enhance its global trade connections through dedicated diplomacy and economic cohesion. In a notable development, Commerce Secretary Shri Sunil Barthwal recently visited the Netherlands from April 24–26, 2025, with the aim of promoting India-Netherlands trade relations through high-level interaction and industry discussions.
His visit ushered in a new chapter of bilateral cooperation. Key discussions were held with Dutch Ministries of Foreign and Economic Affairs officials, focusing on the establishment of a Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC) to facilitate economic cooperation. Barthwal also attended a CEOs Roundtable involving 40 Indian and Dutch company leaders, during which opportunities in renewable energy, agriculture, health, and urbanization were explored.
One of the highlights was his dialogue with the Port of Rotterdam Authority, which was centred on digital and green port collaboration. It is in line with India’s Maritime Vision 2030 and is designed to bring Indian ports up to date with knowledge sharing and exchange of technology. A Green and Digital Corridor project between Rotterdam and Indian ports such as Kandla is already on the cards.
Moreover, Mr. Barthwal’s trip to ASML, a world leader in semiconductor production, created new avenues for Indo-Dutch collaboration in technology innovation. His focus on India’s Semiconductor Mission and policy incentives highlighted the nation’s desire to become a chip production hub.

This visit not only reaffirmed common interests but also laid the groundwork for a long-term trade partnership focused on innovation.
