New Delhi: On May 6, the Indian Army conducted targeted surgical strikes at 9 locations in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and Pakistan’s Punjab Province.
Codenamed ‘Operation Sindoor’, the strikes were a coordinated effort by the Army, Navy and Air Force. The defence ministry said these strikes deliberately avoided Pakistani military installations, and were conducted in a focused, measured and non-escalatory manner. These strikes were in response to the deadly terror attack at a meadow in Pahalgam on April 22 where 28 people were killed. The Resistance Front(TRF), an offshoot of the Laskhar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack, along with other similar attacks in Kashmir.
According to PTI, these strikes targeted the headquarters and hideouts of banned terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and the Hizbul Mujahideen.
Reports claimed that the Pakistani Army has suffered casualties due to Operation Sindoor. The Pakistani Army indulged in retaliatory firing at the LoC after the strikes, killing six.
