New Delhi: After a woman shared her reasons for rejecting a remote job offer in a recent social media post, a new discussion is beginning regarding the work-from-home culture and employee privacy. Her claim was that the company had to track workers by using webcams and that they took screenshots of workers’ screens every 10 minutes while on the job.

Gurleen told me that the interview was progressing well until they told her that they have a very strict tracking system. The organization would ideally have employees on webcam and frequently take screenshots to keep track of productivity, she said. Gurleen felt it was too controlling, and she was not a fan of calling it flexible remote work, but rather “torture.”
In her viral video, she has explained that jobs that work from home should be free and trust and not be treated as “watch us work. But she did add that it also puts pressure on them and can impact the development and wellbeing of their employees. She heard what the policy was about and felt it wasn’t right for her to be there.
The post quickly attracted attention on the internet and a lot of social media users voiced their support for the latter’s choice. Others cited that too much monitoring can cause employees to feel uncomfortable and anxious, whereas others responded that businesses use tracking tools to keep employees accountable when they are working remotely.
