YouTube View Counts could rise from August 24 under new counting rules

New Delhi: Recently, YouTube has officially announced that from August 24, 2026, it will going to count the public views as soon as a video starts playing from its first time frame. This will going to change the applies through across YouTube’s major video formats, by including long-form videos, Shorts, and livestreams.

Earlier, standard YouTube videos were generally understood to require a longer viewing period before a view was registered. This latest approach is much closer to the way platforms such as Instagram and TikTok count video views.

The company said creators have been asking for a more consistent way of measuring exposure because the platform has historically used different view-counting systems across different formats. This goal is to create metric parity across video formats by making it easier for creators to understand how widely their content is being seen.

Because views can now be recorded immediately when playback begins, videos could accumulate views even when the viewers leave very quickly. YouTube itself expects creators to see their total public view counts increase faster after the change. A higher public view count does not necessarily mean people watched more of the video.

However, the company is keeping its existing engaged view the metrics for analytics and monetization. YouTube has also stated that the change will not going to alter the creator earnings or YouTube Partner Program eligibility. It means creators should not interpret a jump in the public views as an equivalent increase in monetized views.

A creator’s public view count might look substantially stronger, which could make their content appear more popular when pitching to brands or sponsors. Advertisers and experienced marketers are unlikely to rely solely on the public view number because watch time and genuine engagement offer a better picture of audience quality.
