YouTube gets smarter AI-based search results carousel goes live

New Delhi: YouTube officially introduced its latest AI-powered search results carousel on Thursday to help users find video suggestions more easily. The Google-owned video hosting site also expanded its conversational AI to more users.

The latest search results carousel will display AI-generated picture descriptions, enabling users to find what they are looking for quickly. For example, YouTube says that searching for the best beaches in Hawaii would generate an AI carousel highlighting clips from videos showcasing the best snorkel spots and volcanic beaches, complete with descriptions and additional videos on how to spend the day. YouTube says it works with searches related to shopping, travel, and planning vacations.

The feature is similar to AI Overviews in Google Search, which generates summaries of search results at the top of the page. This can impact creators by affecting user engagement. If someone obtains the necessary information from the AI search carousel, they may not wish to watch the full video.

This feature is available for YouTube Premium members in the US. YouTube also extended its conversational AI tool to some non-Premium users in the US. The feature was only available in English to Premium users in the US on Android devices so far. It can answer questions, suggest related content, and more without interrupting the playback experience.
