New Delhi: Recently, Xiaomi unveiled its HyperOS 4, its major Android-based software upgrade. This upgrade is based on Android 17 and focuses heavily on a redesigned visual experience, deeper customization, AI features, and improved system performance. The biggest visual changes are Xiaomi’s latest glass-inspired interface.
It uses transparency, blur, layered elements, and lighting effects to give parts of the interface a glass-like appearance. This design is highly reminiscent of Apple’s Liquid-Glass approach, although Xiaomi uses its own implementation and calls the material “soft-light glass.”
Xiaomi is extending the number of elements users can customize. This latest interface has been reported to include changes to:
- Lock-screen layouts
- Home-screen elements
- Icons and folders
- Widgets
- Notification presentation
- Animations
- Wallpapers and visual effects
- Widget stacking
- Overall system appearance
This focus is to offer users considerably more control over the device’s visual appearance.
Xiaomi is also unveiling Super AI Assistant 2.0, which is powered by its own MiMo large language model. This assistant is specially designed to move beyond simple voice commands and offer more intelligent, system-level assistance. This upgrade also brings additional AI-powered capabilities across the Xiaomi ecosystem. Xiaomi is increasingly positioning HyperOS as an AI-driven operating system instead of simply an Android skin.
The currently announced beta schedule applies to China. Xiaomi has not yet announced an equivalent global HyperOS 4 beta schedule.
