New Delhi: ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), the king of memory chips in China, is expected to provide the new generation of LPDDR6 DRAM for Xiaomi’s next flagship foldable phone the Xiaomi 18 Fold. The new handset is likely to be released in September, which will be a significant milestone for China’s booming semiconductor industry.
CXMT has begun to mass produce its LPDDR6 memory chips designed for the use in smartphones and other high-tech gadgets. The company posted the update in China’s social media platform Weibo; Xiaomi also confirmed the partnership on its official Weibo account.
The new generation of mobile memory technology from CXMT is LPDDR6. The company was able to shift from LPDDR5 to LPDDR6 in under a year. The speedy development may help the small chipmaker catch up with industry leader Samsung and SK Hynix that sold memory chips globally.
Along with that, the Xiaomi 18 Fold will also run on Xiaomi’s new in-house chipset Xring O3, which is manufactured at 3 nanometer technology. The processor will work with LPDDR6 memory, which is one of the newest technologies for the company’s hardware, in the upcoming foldable device.
The collaboration also holds promise for CXMT in advancing its ambition in the global memory chip market. CXMT has already sent samples of its LPDDR6 chips to customers, it said. The memory is set to be deployed on mobile phones, as well as in servers and smart vehicles.
In recent years, CXMT has experienced healthy financial development. The chipmaker has also posted a dramatic shift to profitability in the first half of 2026 in its first earnings since going public. Revenue also rose by 874% year-on-year to 150.3 billion yuan ($22.36 billion), according to several reports and sources.
The company, though, is also being pressured by the United States. Recently, the company sued the U.S. Department of Defense after it was among those companies Washington has identified as being associated with the Chinese military (CXMT). The Pentagon has not spoken about the case so far.
With the adoption of the latest memory technology, developed by the company’s own research and development, Xiaomi may improve its supply chain in the future and increase its access to high-end components that are manufactured in China. The Xiaomi 18 Fold device comes at a significant juncture for CXMT to demonstrate its LPDDR6 blend of high-speed and energy efficiency in a flagship device.
