Xbox could get ad-supported game streaming as Microsoft begins testing

New Delhi: Microsoft has officially introduced a limited-time test of an ad-supported game streaming option for Xbox Insiders. During this experiment, eligible Xbox Insiders with an Xbox account can stream select games they own from their library for free by watching ads before each session. During this experiment, ads are shown before each streaming session begins. The gameplay experience remains unchanged. This feature is optional, and players can choose other ways to play at any time.

Microsoft stated that the players can stream games by using devices they already own. Cloud streaming also allows Xbox One owners to play newer Xbox Series X/S games without purchasing the latest hardware. Xbox stated this might improve access in regions where the consoles are harder to find or less affordable.

Microsoft stated that the ad-supported streaming test follows these principles: ads will not interrupt gameplay. Advertisements will be clearly identified. Ads will meet the same quality standard as its content. Ads will be designed to match the player expectations on each platform. The test explores another way to provide lower-cost access to cloud gaming while expanding access to more players. Microsoft will use feedback from Xbox Insiders to refine the experience before considering wider rollout.

A limited-time test is available to eligible Xbox Insiders with an Xbox account across supported devices and regions, with the streaming sessions limited to one hour. Xbox Insiders can share feedback via Xbox Player Voice or get support via the Xbox Insider.
