Windows Search Box update brings cleaner UI, better results and more controls

New Delhi: Microsoft has officially announced a series of enhancements to the Windows Search Box, all aimed at improving the speed, clarity, and reliability of searches. This update seeks to minimize duplication in the visual feed by adding more relevance to web and Microsoft Store suggestions in search results and giving the user greater control. The home page of the search has been streamlined to improve easy access to recent searches.

Search results are now much more sorted so that when results are found, it is easy to see the result type to find out what will happen where the result appears, and also to find out whether the result item is an application, setting, file, web result, or a suggestion in Microsoft Store.

By showing the top, most relevant answer in search results, promotional search results have been diminished. Local suggestions prevail over web and Microsoft Store suggestions if they are a better match. This PC and the Recycle Bin are among the system items that are easier to find.

Multiple enhancements to the application, settings, and file search feature: File search features improved for typos, missing letters, extra letters, and partial words in application search. There are early stages of improvements to Settings search to bring up more relevant information, scheduled for additional refinements in the near future. Displays 2-character searches with a better display of local, cloud, and connected file searches if they are the most relevant match.
