New Delhi: iPhone 18 Pro is going to shape up to be one of Apple’s biggest Pro model upgrades in years. Apple has not yet officially confirmed any features, but multiple reports from reliable supply-chain analysts and Apple-aimed publications point to some significant improvements.
A20 Pro Chip
The biggest and major upgrade is expected to be Apple’s latest A20 Pro processor, manufactured using TSMC’s first-generation 2nm process. It changes up to 15-20% faster CPU performance, better GPU performance for AAA gaming, and much improved AI processing for Apple Intelligence. Lower power consumption with longer battery life despite higher performance. Moving from a 3nm to 2nm manufacturing process is one of the largest chip upgrades Apple has made in years. This chip might pack more transistors into the same space, making the device faster while producing less heat.
Aperture Camera
Apple is rumored to unveil a mechanical variable aperture on its main 48MP camera for the first time. Now, the main question is how it works rather than having only one fixed Aperture; users might get multiple aperture levels. For example:
Wide Aperture (around f/1.4-1.5)
- Better low-light photos
- Natural Background blur
- Portrait style photography
Narrow Aperture (around f/2.4-2.8)
- Sharper landscape shots
- Better group photos
- More of the scene remains in aim
It will benefit DSLR-like photography, better night photography, improved daylight image quality, more professional-looking photos, and better video exposure. Currently, only a handful of Android flagships offer this feature so that it could be notable first for the iPhone lineup.
Smaller Dynamic Island with under-display Face ID
Apple has reported they are moving part of the Face ID system underneath the display. Rather than completely removing the Dynamic Island, Apple is expected to make it significantly smaller. It is expected to improve by including more screen space, a cleaner front design, less distraction while watching videos, and a more immersive gaming experience.
Several reports indicate only several Face ID components will move under the display. The selfie camera is expected to remain visible, which means a completely hole-free display might arrive in a future model. This is still an important step toward Apple’s long-term goal of an all-screen iPhone.
Bigger battery
The company is likely to improve both battery pack and thermal management. It has been rumored that upgrades include a larger battery, vapor chamber cooling, better sustained gaming performance, reduced thermal throttling, and longer battery life. A vapor chamber spreads heat much more efficiently than traditional cooling systems, enabling the A20 Pro chip to maintain peak performance for longer periods. Users might see more stable frame rates, with less overheating, better charging temperatures, and improved long-session performance.
Apple’s C2 Modem + Satellite Improvements
Apple is expected to continue by reducing its reliance on third-party components with the latest C2 cellular modem and upgraded wireless chips. It is expected to improve faster 5G speeds, better network stability, improved battery efficiency, stronger signal reception, and more reliable roaming. Some reports suggested extending satellite connectivity, potentially enabling limited internet access in areas without cellular coverage instead of being restricted to emergency messaging.
