New Delhi: In some recent reports, it has been reported that people are facing delays while purchasing the Mac Studio or Mac mini; they have been shown four to five months to deliver. Now, what is the main reason why Apple Mac deliveries are taking this long time to deliver to people?
Deliveries of the selected variants of the M4 Max Mac Studio, M3 Ultra Mac Studio, and M4-series chip-powered Mac mini have been pushed back by some months, which is expected to be due to the ongoing global memory shortage.
One more thing to highlight is that the 512GB unified memory option for the M3 Ultra Mac Studio is no longer listed on the Apple online store. Mac Studio with the M4 Max chip in a 16-core CPU and 40-core GPU configuration, when coupled with the 48GB unified memory, can take up to 12 weeks to be delivered.
Whereas Mac mini deliveries are not pushed back as far as the Mac Studio, the higher memory variants are still facing delays.
However, the memory shortage might be the reason for the delay in deliveries of these Mac models; it may not be the only factor.
Both of the current generation Mac Studio and Mac mini models are expected to be near the end of their product cycle, as Apple might soon unveil the upgraded version with the M5-series processor. The company’s inventory typically runs low for the products that are expected to receive an upgrade soon, which might also contribute to longer delivery timelines.
Delays are coming against the backdrop of the broader global memory shortage that has been affecting multiple parts of the technology industry. The demand for memory components such as DRAM and NAND has surged due to the rapid expansion of the AI infrastructure, with the data centers and cloud providers consuming a larger share of available supply.
The manufacturers are now highly prioritizing the higher margin, server-grade memory over consumer-grade components used in devices like PCs and smartphones.
This recent shift has tightened the supply for consumer hardware, leading to not just rising costs but also longer lead times, and in some cases, it has also constrained the availability of certain configurations.
