New Delhi: WhatsApp has started working on its latest home screen widget for Android that might make the status check upgrade quicker. This upcoming feature will enable users to see which contacts have recently shared status updates directly from their phone’s home screen, without needing to open the application.
However, this feature is still under development; the widget is expected to work similarly to the status widget initially unveiled on iOS.
WhatsApp has started developing the latest Home Screen widget specially designed to offer quicker access to recent status updates. Currently, users need to open WhatsApp and navigate to the Updates tab to check statuses, whereas several updates might also appear via profile rings in the Chats tab.
This upcoming widget is expected to enable users to view and access recent status activity directly from their Home Screen. It might be particularly useful for people who frequently engage with WhatsApp Status updates.
Widget is likely to display a limited number of contacts, expected up to three at a time, who have recently posted status. Widget will going to include shortcut for creating the status updates. Users can tap the shortcut to instantly open the interface to upload the latest status without navigating through the application.
It has an existing ranking system to decide which contacts are going to appear in the widget. This system has been prioritizing people users interact with the most, by including frequently messaged contacts and pinned chats.
The algorithm might also highlight status updates that are close to expiring, making the widget more useful for keeping up with recent activity. However, the ranking process will happen locally on the device; this feature is expected to remain privacy-friendly.
