New Delhi: WhatsApp has officially started experimenting with a major visual update for its web version, including customizable chat themes. This feature is still under testing, but it indicates that WhatsApp is now paying massive attention to the web experience, which has remained fairly limited in terms of personalization.
WhatsApp Web has massively focused on functionality, with only limited visual upgrades such as dark mode and small interface changes over the years. Users still cannot customize chats the way they can on mobile devices.
WhatsApp is experimenting with the latest chat themes that might enable users to change message bubble colors, wallpapers, and chat backgrounds directly from their browser. The company is also preparing to unveil a dedicated chat theme section within the settings menu on WhatsApp Web.
This feature is also been reported to enable the users to apply themes globally across all of the chats or to assign different themes to individual conversations. It is expected to use a grid layout where users can browse and preview the available themes before applying them to their chats.
A similar option might also appear inside the chat info page, making it easier to customize specific chats separately. These visual changes are going to remain private, which means other users in the conversation will not be able to see the themes or wallpapers selected by someone else.
WhatsApp is also preparing around 49 different chat themes for its web client. It might going to reduce the number to 39 themes. This decision appears to have been made to improve the overall experience rather than simply offering more options.
Some are expected to feature more colorful wallpapers and brighter backgrounds compared to WhatsApp’s current minimal design. Around eight themes might include vibrant visual styles that might make conversations more highlighted.
