New Delhi: WhatsApp is now all set to end support for several older-generation Android devices starting from September 2026. This change will affect the users who are running outdated versions of Android, which means the application will no longer work on certain older smartphones after the deadline.
WhatsApp is now continuing to release the latest features by including notification bubbles as it upgrades the application to support the latest system capabilities and performance standards.
WhatsApp is going to stop working on older Android devices that are older than Android 6.0. WhatsApp supports Android 5.0 and above, but this will change as reports have added that WhatsApp is now moving to support the latest features and better performance standards.
Android already supports floating windows, and WhatsApp has been reported to focus on simplifying access via its own interface.
Such features might not work well on older devices. The move might affect the users in regions where the older smartphones are still widely used, including India, Brazil, and parts of Southeast Asia and Africa. WhatsApp has started notifying the affected users via in-application alerts.
This upgrade only affects Android devices, iPhones, and iPads that are running on iOS 15.1 or later will continue to support WhatsApp without any changes.
