New Delhi: WhatsApp might soon going to unveil its most awaited latest optional subscription plan, called “WhatsApp Plus”, which could provide additional features such as application customization and expanded chat management tools.
This latest feature is currently under experiment for both Android and iOS and has not yet been publicly released. Subscription would add the extra feature for the users who choose to pay a monthly fee, while the application’s core functionality, including messaging, voice and video calls, media sharing, and privacy features, would continue to remain free for the users.
WhatsApp has not officially announced any pricing or an official launch timeline for the plan. The features under development could also change before the subscription becomes widely available to users. The proposed WhatsApp Plus subscription would aim primarily at personalization and additional convenience features instead of altering the core messaging experience.
It could be extended chat pinning, where users can pin up to three chats in the application. The subscription plan might raise this limit to 20 pinned chats by enabling users to keep more conversations at the top of their chat list.
The plan might also unveil several interface customization options. The subscribers could choose from 14 different application icons and adjust interface accent colours from a selection of 19 colour options. Bychanging the accent colour might also going to affect the interface elements such as tabs, filters, and action buttons.
Despite the latest paid tier, WhatsApp is expected to keep essential features such as messaging, calling, groups, and privacy tools available to all users without charge.
This feature has been reported to be spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.9.6, where several users can join a waitlist that will notify them once the premium plan becomes available. The eligible users might see a banner within the settings page or a sticker keyboard inviting them to sign up for notifications about the subscription plan.
Joining the waitlist does not automatically enroll users in the paid service when it unveils. This waitlist feature is currently available only to a limited number of beta testers in certain regions.
