WhatsApp could roll out a modern look with updated chat bubbles

New Delhi: WhatsApp is now internally experimenting with the redesigned interface for chat message bubbles on Android. This latest design is stated to unveil softer, more rounded chat bubbles that aim to give conversations a cleaner and more modern look.

This latest update has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.10.2. This feature is reported to be available to some beta testers, suggesting that the rollout is currently limited and might extend to more users in the coming weeks.

Its chat message bubbles appear more rounded compared to the previous version. The earlier versions of the applications used chat bubbles with sharper corners and a more rectangular shape, which created a compact and structured layout in the conversations. The message bubbles have been reported to feature a higher corner radius by offering them a fully rounded appearance.

This change applies to the different types of messages, including text, images, polls, and event messages. This upgraded design is stated to create a more consistent and visually cohesive interface across the chats.

The redesign has also been reported to make the chat layout appear cleaner and more contemporary, while also improving the readability during long conversations. With this latest design, images and videos have been reported to appear as standalone rounded bubbles rather than being placed inside a rectangular message frame.

This change is stated to make multimedia messages feel more integrated within the conversations and visually distinct from the text messages.  It still shows a small header above the media bubble that displays the sender’s name and indicates if the message was forwarded.

WhatsApp is also expected to expand to roll out to more beta testers in the coming weeks before bringing the latest design to the stable version of the application. The feature is currently being rolled out gradually and might not yet be visible to all users.
