WhatsApp adds extra privacy with upcoming username feature

New Delhi: Meta is growing much faster than expected by anyone, and now WhatsApp is becoming much capable, similar to Instagram. The reason is that they have recently released a new update in which they are working on some powerful new features that could change the way users connect. The instant messaging giant is unveiling some unique usernames which are similar to Instagram, allowing users to chat without sharing their mobile numbers with anyone. This latest feature has been under development for quite some time and has now been spotted in WhatsApp’s latest Android beta version.

WhatsApp is letting users create and reserve usernames directly from their profile settings. This means that users will no longer need to share their phone numbers to start any chat; instead, they can use their username, similar to Instagram and Facebook. The username system is designed to make WhatsApp more private and flexible, especially for people who don’t want to share personal contact details for business or online interactions.

This latest feature is being tested with a limited group of beta users on Android; it hasn’t yet been rolled out to all users under the Google Play Beta Program. According to some reports, WhatsApp plans to make the username feature available to more beta testers soon, which is going to be followed by a global rollout. Along with the username, WhatsApp is also testing some of the latest security features, including the ability to set a PIN for profile protection.
