New Delhi: Google Chrome has released an urgent update for users who are using Chrome on their desktops. The Indian cybersecurity agency CERT-In has issued a high-severity warning about the multiple serious security flaws affecting the Chrome versions earlier than 137.0.7151.55 on Linux and 137.0.7151.55/56 on Windows and macOS.
These vulnerabilities could allow the hackers to remotely hijack the user’s system or crash it simply by luring the user to a malicious website. According to some source’s latest alert, several weaknesses have been found in Google Chrome’s internal components. These issues include memory handling problems like use after free in Compositing and libvpx, improper implementation in features like Background Fetch API, FileSystemAccess API, and BFCache, as well as out-of-bounds writes in V8 Chrome’s JavaScript engine.
If exploited, a hacker could run unauthorised code on the user’s machine. That means they might install malicious programs, steal sensitive data, or cause the browser and possibly the system to crash. Anyone using an outdated version of Chrome on Windows, macOS, or Linux is at risk. Since Chrome is widely used across personal and enterprise, the scope of impact is significant.
All it takes is visiting a compromised or intentionally crafted webpage. Once the page loads, the vulnerabilities could be triggered without the users doing anything else. This type of threat is particularly dangerous because it doesn’t rely on users downloading suspicious files. Just browsing the wrong page is enough. Update your Chrome browser immediately. Google has already released fixes in Chrome version 137.0.7151.55/56. To update, go to Chrome Settings> Help> About Google Chrome. The browser will automatically check for updates and install the latest version.
This alert update is a reminder that even trusted software can have hidden risks. Keeping the user’s applications updated is one of the simplest thing and most effective ways to stay protected from online hackers.
