New Delhi: The Joint Electron Device Engineering Council has recently announced the next generation flash storage that will soon make its way into their devices. The UFS 5.0 storage standard is now finished, and the manufacturers will quickly be able to start production. The standard focuses on improving performance and energy efficiency for AI systems, mobile devices and edge computing. Equally important, the UFS 5.0 storage will be backwards compatible with the hardware initially designed for the UFS 4.x.
The UFS 5.0 almost doubles the sequential performance, offering the 10.8 GB/s bandwidth. For context, the UFS 4.0 and 4.1 standards provide up to 5.8 GB/s bandwidth. In addition to the performance improvements, the latest link equalisation feature ensures better signal stability, while the dedicated power rail isolates noise between the physical and memory layers, improving reliability even further.
The latest and upcoming UFS 5.0 is also going to come with the inline hashing that protects users’ data. The Joint Electron Device Engineering Council hasn’t given a clear release timeline, so users will have to wait for the upcoming updates until the manufacturers start making the latest standard. This will make smartphones a monster for the users, in terms of performance and with some of the crazy upgrades, and the users wait for a few seconds to open any of the high-end applications.
