New Delhi: Threads by Meta got off to a fast start. Within just five days of its release, the Twitter-like app surpassed the milestone of 100 million sign-ups, demonstrating its incredible success. However, according to recent reports, the app’s number of daily active users has already begun to fall. Mark zuckerberg, the company’s CEO, expressed excitement about the app’s expanding user base, adding tens of millions of people visit Threads every day, well above the company’s projections.
In a recent Threads post, Zuckerberg said, “I’m very optimistic about how the Threads community is coming together. Early growth was off the charts, but more importantly 10s of millions of people now come back daily. That’s way ahead of what we expected. The focus for the rest of the year is improving the basics and retention. It’ll take time to stabilize, but once we nail that then we’ll focus on growing the community. We’ve run this playbook many times (FB, IG, Stories, Reels, etc) and I’m confident Threads is on a good path too.”
Recent data suggests a decline in user engagement on the Threads platform. According to Sensor Tower data, the number of daily active users has dropped by approximately 20 per cent since its debut on July 5. Additionally, Similar web’s analysis reveals a decline of over 25 per cent in daily active users on Android phones globally, with a corresponding decrease of more than 50 per cent in usage time.
Meta is concentrating on stabilizing the app’s performance, upgrading the fundamentals, and improving user retention in response to these early difficulties. According to Zuckerberg, users may rest comfortably that this strategy has worked well for other Meta platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Stories, and reels. After optimising these fundamental components, the company will focus on expanding the Threads community.
Although user participation is declining, Meta is optimistic about the future of Threads. The corporation needed to prepare for the app’s first popularity. It is important to note that India leads the world in app downloads, representing 33% of all downloads, followed by Brazil(22%), and the US (16%).
With the introduction of Threads, rivalry among social media sites has increased, with Meta attempting to compete with Twitter. Twitter has been working to preserve and grow its user base in the meanwhile. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and a well-known Twitter user, recently asserted that usage of Twitter has increased by 3.5 % globally, demonstrating the platform’s continuous significance.
Politics and controversy are things that Meta wants to keep off their platform. But one of the main issues that caused Twitter employees to leave is also a problem for Meta. Instagram will implement rate limits, according to CEO Adam Mosseri, to prevent bots and spam on the network.
