New Delhi: Tesla an electric car company led by Elon Musk, is taking legal action against a company in Gurugram called Tesla Power India Ltd. They’re saying Tesla Power is using their brand names “Tesla Power” and “Tesla Power USA” without permission.Tesla Power India Ltd says they’re not planning to make electric cars and won’t use the Tesla brand to sell other companies’ electric cars.
Tesla Inc found out about Tesla Power using their name in 2022 and tried to stop them, but Tesla Power kept advertising their products. So now Tesla Inc is taking them to court. The court gave Tesla Power three weeks to respond with their side of the story. The next court date is May 22.
This all happened around the same time when Elon Musk was supposed to visit India but canceled and went to China instead.
A person from Tesla Power told that their company was in India before Tesla and has all the necessary approvals from the government. The Indian government recently reduced import taxes on electric cars costing more than $35,000 to encourage investment in electric vehicles. This could be important for Tesla if they want to enter the Indian market.
