New Delhi: Tesla has issued a recall for all 3,878 Cybertrucks that have been shipped so far due to a potential issue with the accelerator pedal becoming stuck, which could lead to accidents, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
This announcement comes amidst a challenging week for Tesla, which saw significant layoffs and the departure of key executives. Additionally, the company faced setbacks with CEO Elon Musk’s compensation package, prompting a re-vote by shareholders.
Concerns regarding the Cybertruck’s accelerator pedal arose recently, leading Tesla to halt deliveries while addressing the issue. Musk assured caution, stating that the company was proactively addressing the matter. Despite reports of incidents, Tesla stated no knowledge of crashes or injuries related to the problem.
After investigating incidents reported by customers, Tesla identified an unauthorized alteration involving the use of lubricant during assembly, which compromised the pedal’s retention. Consequently, the company initiated a recall, committing to replace or modify the accelerator pedal in all affected Cybertrucks.
While this marks the Cybertruck’s first significant recall since its launch in late 2019, an earlier recall occurred due to minor software issues across Tesla’s vehicle lineup.
