New Delhi: Telegram is unveiling several enhancements as part of its January feature update, including the introduction of “view-once” functionality for both video and audio messages. This builds on the previous implementation of “view-once” for photos and videos in one-on-one chats introduced in September 2023. Users can now initiate recording by tapping the microphone icon and then utilizing the “view-once” icon, allowing recipients to experience the message just once.
Furthermore, Telegram is introducing the ability to pause and resume recording for both voice and video messages via the same menu. Another addition is the inclusion of read-time controls for one-on-one private chats, enabling users to see when recipients have read their messages. This feature can be toggled on or off in the settings.
For premium users, Telegram is offering new features, such as the option to conceal their own read time while still having the ability to view someone else’s read time if it is publicly shared. Additionally, premium users can now choose who can initiate contact with them first, selecting from “Everyone” or “My Contacts and Premium User” options.
In the previous month, Telegram rolled out updates for enhanced channel discovery and customization, as well as improved calls with end-to-end encryption for reduced battery consumption. The bot platform was also updated to allow bots to respond to messages, manage reactions, quotes, and links, and send replies to other chats or topics.
