New Delhi: Spotify has reported that they are working on a new feature called Prompted Playlists. The feature is especially designed to make music discovery more personalised. The Prompted Playlists feature of Spotify will use artificial intelligence to create the playlists based on the prompts given by the users. The test marks another step in Spotify’s push to integrate AI into its platform, following earlier launches like the AI DJ. The Prompted Playlists feature enables users to type in the theme, mood or scenario, for instance, songs for a rainy evening, or workout tracks with 2000s hip-hop vibes.
The Spotify AI will then create playlists that are tailored to that request, blending personalisation with contextual understanding. Unlike the static playlists, these AI-powered lists adapt to user intent and listening history, offering a more dynamic and individualised experience. Spotify has long relied on the algorithmic recommendations like the Discover Weekly and Daily Mix. Prompted Playlists represent a shift toward user-driven personalisation, giving the listeners more control while still leveraging AI’s ability to surface relevant tracks. The feature could also help Spotify differentiate itself in the crowded streaming market, where rivals like Apple Music and YouTube Music are also investing in more innovative recommendation tools.
Spotify also announced that it is making videos available to premium subscribers in the US and Canada. The expansion positions the Swedish streaming giant to challenge YouTube in the music video space directly. According to the company, video content offers a more immersive and engaging experience than audio alone, a factor that could attract more users and advertisers. However, there will be a limited catalogue of music videos. Music videos will be available to all of the premium subscribers in the US and Canada by the end of the month.
