Snapdragon Wear Elite promises faster and smarter wearable experience

New Delhi: Qualcomm has announced its latest and unexpected chip, which many users are yet to even think about. The company has launched its Snapdragon Wear Elite SoC, which might be the best chip the wearable space has been waiting for.

It might be the best Android smartwatch, the smart glasses that almost all brands are getting into these days, and almost all of these wearables run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip. Although Snapdragon W5 Gen 2, which powered the Pixel Watch 4, has been a very good chip, the wearables space has been slightly behind the smartphone space.

Snapdragon mobile SoCs have focused greatly on on-device AI, and now Qualcomm is looking forward to taking the same jump forward in the wearable space with the Snapdragon Wear Elite. Snapdragon Wear Elite is designed to offer improved performance, longer battery life, improved connectivity, and on-device AI for smartwatches and other emerging AI devices.

Snapdragon Wear Elite is now enabled with the Hexagon NPU platform, which is specifically designed for on-device AI with support for up to 2B parameters. Qualcomm has also stated that this allows context-aware recommendations, natural voice interactions, and so on.

For the low-power AI-related operations, the processor will feature an eNPU low-power island, which will be used for the always-on and active usage scenarios. Low-power mode will be used for operations such as keyword detection and activity recognition, while the active mode will be used for voice call echo cancellation and noise suppression.

In addition, the improvement in the AI-related operations is not the only aspect, as Qualcomm also announced that the latest five-core CPU, with one core operating at 2.1 GHz and four cores operating at 1.95 GHz, will provide up to 5 times better performance and 7 times better graphics, along with up to 30 percent longer battery life and fast charging capabilities.

Snapdragon Wear Elite features six advanced technologies, including 5G RedCap technology, which is designed for low-power cellular connectivity, Bluetooth 6.0, micro-power Wi-Fi, Ultra-Wideband technology, GNSS technology, and NB-NTN technology, which is designed to offer satellite two-way messaging capabilities in the absence of cellular and Wi-Fi networks.

None of the devices is powered by Snapdragon Wear Elite, but Qualcomm announced that the first wave of the products is expected to be available in the coming months.
