New Delhi: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, which is Qualcomm’s No. 2 successor to the Snapdragon 855G, has emerged in a new leak as a sort of preview of one of Qualcomm’s biggest upgrades in years. The new chipset should enable numerous high-end Android phones to be released in the second half of 2026 and in the first half of 2027.
The rumored specs indicate that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will be manufactured using the company’s state-of-the-art 2nm process. Although the manufacturing method is smaller and more efficient, the size of the chip is said to be greater than the existing Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The larger size might enable Qualcomm to pack a beefier CPU and graphics and advanced AIO features.
Also, the leak seems to indicate that Qualcomm is making huge enhancements on the CPU front. The processor is likely to debut with improved Oryon CPU cores clocked at higher speeds, offering improved performance. The apps will load faster, multitask much more smoothly, and have better power efficiency. This would allow flagships running on the new chip to have improved battery life and be easier to handle for power-hungry tasks.
The performance will also be a major boost for gamers. This chipset is expected to feature an updated Adreno GPU, which offers improved graphics capabilities and AI-based manufacturing of the most in-demand gaming capabilities. The use of emerging graphics technologies such as AI-generated frames or upscaling has also been reported, suggesting that mobile games might not be as demanding in graphics as they currently are.
An additional feature that could be present in another generational upgrade is support for LPDDR6 RAM since the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will be the first mobile processor to support the new memory standard. While LPDDR5X and LPDDR6 may be comparable in power consumption, LPDDR6 promises to provide higher data rates and enhanced power efficiency, further boosting device performance.
Qualcomm has not officially revealed the name of the new chipset, but multiple smartphone manufacturers are rumored to be developing new models equipped with the new CPU. OnePlus, OPPO, Xiaomi, and iQOO are a few of the companies where it is likely that future flagship phones will have to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro as soon as it is launched later this year.
Like most early leaks, these are not official yet and likely should not be taken as gospel, particularly until Qualcomm formally announces its new 675G. Based on the leaked specs, if they’re true, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will be a more capable Android flagship cell phone with improved gaming ability, additional AI capabilities, and efficiency.
