New Delhi: Snapchat recently rolled out a new feature in its application, which is named Topic Chat, enabling users of the social network to participate in public conversations about popular trends. By its own admission, Snapchat has previously focused on private conversations, but it has stated that the growth of its TikTok-like Spotlight features made it clear that people want to comment publicly about the topics they are interested in. Topic Chats, which are coming to Canada, New Zealand and the US first, will appear in different areas of the Snapchat application in the shape of the big yellow button that states ” Join the chat.
Users will tap it, and they will directly join the conversation, where they can also browse related Spotlight videos. The company used F1 and the reality show Below Dock as examples of the topics that could feature. Snapchat will show the users when their friends are in a particular chat, and any user who joins will then appear at the top of their personalised Topic Chat page. Snap stated that it will moderate the latest platform to ensure it remains safe, which will use LLMs, among other measures, to ensure that topics being engaged with are of an appropriate nature.
All of the profiles will remain private unless users are already friends, which Snap stated will prevent unwanted friend requests or direct messages. Topic Chats are set to go live in the coming weeks, and they will appear in the Chat shortcuts and the Stories page, as well as when searching or viewing Spotlight videos.
