New Delhi: Samsung might be about to rock the foldable smartphone segment altogether. As the company is expected to roll out the Galaxy Z Flip 8 next year, a new leak indicates that it might phase out Galaxy Z Flip with its popular lineup of Galaxy Z Flip series devices. This has yet to be confirmed by Samsung, but is now being discussed but smartphone fans.
A tipster on the social media site Weibo in China has claimed that Samsung wants to kill the Z Flip series following the Z Flip 8. If this does indeed prove to be the case, the company’s motivation might spring from further investment in the foldables that mimic a book, like the Galaxy Z Fold series and other forthcoming book-style devices. The leak doesn’t elaborate, though, on why that decision may be being made. Galaxy Z Flip has so far registered the highest success in Samsung’s foldable smartphone line-up since its launch in 2020. Stylish design, reduced costs, and its compact clamshell design have garnered many users’ desire to use it. Over the years, Samsung has enhanced the Flip line with successive notable increases in camera features, ruggedness, and panel sizes.
Yet the foldie-folie of the frottage is getting more competitive. Motorola, Oppo, Honor, and Huawei have also released their own flips that fold in the direction of their brand’s style, offering more options. Competition and shifting customer preferences could be influencing Samsung’s product strategy.
It’s a good reminder to remember that this is information based on just a leak. Samsung, for its part, hasn’t mentioned anything about its intention to quit the Galaxy Z Flip series. Indeed, the company is getting ready to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 at a forthcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, indicating that the Flip lineup is still significant to the company’s current portfolio. At the moment, it is unclear what happens to the Galaxy Z Flip series, as Samsung has not confirmed anything whatsoever. For the time being, this report should be viewed as speculation and not official news.
