New Delhi: Samsung Display has recently released its next-generation tandem OLED panel for its premium laptops, which is now capable of reaching 1,600nits peak brightness. This display is also the world’s first laptop OLED display to earn VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification, setting the latest benchmark for HDR laptop displays, unlike traditional OLED displays that use a single emissive layer; tandem OLED stacks two organic light-emitting layers.
It offers up to 40% higher peak brightness with improved power efficiency. It offers a longer display lifespan with better resistance to burn-in with the enhanced HDR performance with deeper blacks and brighter highlights. The company stated that the 1,600nits figure is measured at the panel level in HDR scenarios and places the display among the brightest OLED laptop panels available commercially. The latest VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 standard requires peak brightness of at least 1,400nits. It has black levels below 0.0005 nits, with excellent HDR contrast and shadow detail.
The tandem architecture significantly improves durability. Several reports suggested that the panel can last up to twice as long as the previous single-stack OLED technology while maintaining brightness more effectively over time.
The first commercially announced laptop featuring this display is the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition. Samsung Display has already begun mass production and shipments of these panels. Samsung Display is expected to supply these panels to some premium laptop manufacturers, including Lenovo, ASUS, Dell, and MSI.
