New Delhi: Samsung could shake up its artificial intelligence strategy, with talks underway to make the Perplexity AI a significant part of its smartphone ecosystem. According to some sources, Samsung is in advanced discussions with US-based startup Perplexity AI to not only preload its assistant on future devices but also to invest significantly in the company.
If this deal goes through, Samsung may integrate Perplexity’s AI tools into several core areas, including its browser, the Bixby virtual assistant, and possibly even its operating ecosystem. It is reported that the aim is to roll out the changes as early as this year, with the broader launch expected with the Galaxy S26 series in 2026. According to some reports, these plans are still in flux and could evolve before any official announcement is made.
This partnership could represent a significant shift in Samsung’s AI approach. However, the company has heavily relied on Google’s Gemini to power many of the AI features within the Galaxy AI suite. However, collaboration with Perplexity would allow Samsung to diversify and reduce its dependence on Google.
On the other hand, if we discuss the deal, it would mark its most extensive mobile tie-up yet. The startup has already partnered with Motorola and offers its AI assistant in the Razr 60 and Razr 60 Ultra.
This scale of the possible Samsung partnership extends beyond simply adding another AI assistant to its phones. Some sources have reported that the companies have discussed developing a new AI-powered operating system and an app that would act as a hub for different AI agents, including the Perplexity.
If this partnership were to occur between Samsung and Perplexity, then questions naturally arise about the future of Google’s Gemini on Galaxy phones. While it’s unlikely Gemini will be removed entirely, it may become a secondary option in the devices.
