New Delhi: According to several supply-chain production reports, it has been reported that Samsung Display has recently received Apple’s final approval to manufacture foldable OLED display modules for Apple’s first foldable iPhone and has already started operating part of its production lines in Vietnam.
This is now one of the strongest indicators yet that Apple’s foldable iPhone is moving from the prototype stage toward commercial production. Apple has only authorized large-scale component manufacturing once the product design is expected to be largely finalized.
Reports suggested that Samsung Display has secured a three-year exclusive agreement to supply foldable OLED panels for Apple’s foldable iPhone lineup. Apple is not expected to source foldable displays from rivals such as BOE or LG Display. It has been reported to be preparing approximately 3 million foldable OLED panels for Apple in the initial production phase. Some industry analysts generally expected that the foldable iPhone would aim at the ultra-premium segment instead of the mass market.
Samsung Display’s latest creaseless foldable OLED technology was showcased at CES 2026. The prototype displayed virtually no visible crease, a major complaint with the current foldable iPhones. Apple has also pushed Samsung to deliver a display with little or no visible crease because Apple reportedly considers the crease issue unacceptable for the first-generation foldable iPhone. If Apple’s foldable iPhone launches successfully, it might be the biggest catalyst the foldable market has seen since Samsung unveiled the original Samsung Galaxy Fold.
