New Delhi: Meta has officially introduced a major upgrade for its Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses, which brings Meta’s gesture-based virtual writing feature to all users while adding several latest mixed-reality and communication tools. This upgrade also extends one of the glasses’ headline features, the ability to write messages by using simple hand gestures via Meta’s neural wristband accessory.
The virtual writing system enables users to compose messages without physically touching a keyboard or smartphone. By interpreting subtle wrist and finger movements via the neural wristband, the glasses can translate gestures into text input directly within the supported applications.
The latest display recording feature is specially designed to create more immersive video captures. This tool also combines footage from the glasses lens display, the user’s real-world view, and surrounding audio into a single recording.
This will also enable users to share better what they see and experience via the smart glasses interface. Navigation support is also being extended; walking directions are now available across the entire United States and in some major international cities, including London, Paris, and Rome.
Live captioning capabilities will also going to be added to WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram voice messages. Meta is also enabling access to the platform for developers by unveiling a developer preview program. Developers will now be able to create and deploy applications for the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, including web-based applications.
This rollout now reflects Meta’s broader ambitions in wearable computing and AI-powered smart glasses, an area where Meta continues to invest heavily.
