Google has issued an urgent warning about a potential battery overheating issue on some devices and is rolling out a mandatory software update to address it. According to some sources shared with Android Authority, the problem occurs after 400 complete charge cycles.
That’s when the phone’s battery starts showing signs of wear. To keep things safe, Google says it will automatically reduce battery capacity and charging speed through an update. The goal is simple: prevent the battery from overheating and posing a risk.
This update isn’t for all Pixel 6a users; it’s only for a subset of devices. However, Google will contact those affected sometime next month with all the details. The Pixel 6a was launched in July 2022 and has been a favourite for many thanks to its solid performance and affordable price.
With software support running through July 2027, many users still rely on it daily. However, this news might prompt some people to reconsider holding on to it for much longer.
This isn’t the first time a Pixel phone has had battery trouble. A few years ago, the Pixel 4a faced a similar issue, which led to performance throttling, free battery replacements, and even an official recall in Australia.
