New Delhi: It has been officially announced that Oppo and Vivo are not jointly developing any pocket gimbal camera, but both companies appear to be pursuing the category independently. Oppo and Vivo have denied reports of a joint development agreement for the pocket-sized gimbal camera. Both companies reported they have not reached an R&D cooperation agreement and currently have no plans to debut such a product jointly.
Several earlier reports had indicated that the two companies were developing a camera together, potentially sharing core imaging technology and even a 200MP camera sensor. This collaboration claim now appears to be incorrect. The denials do not mean Oppo and Vivo have abandoned the pocket-camera market.
Separate reports suggested that both companies are working on their own products. It has reportedly been developing a project internally codenamed “Fuyao.” Previous reports stated that the company had approved development of a dedicated gimbal camera, with commercial debut expected before the end of 2026.
This might put Oppo directly against DJI in the growing compact stabilized-camera market. Vivo has also reported to have started user experimentation for its first gimbal camera. Vivo was stated to be recruiting users with earlier experience by using gimbal products for hands-on experimentation at its Shenzhen headquarters.
Instead of a single Oppo-Vivo product, the current picture appears to be two separate cameras from two BBK-related smartphone brands.
