New Delhi: OpenAI has updated its ChatGPT model, introducing a new app and interface with a big black dot as its main feature. At the OpenAI Spring Event, CTO Mira Murati said, “We know that these models get more and more complex, but we want the experience of interaction to actually become more natural, easy, and for you not to focus on the UI at all.”
This new interface, whether you see it as a dot, hole, or circle, leans towards a simple, minimalist design similar to Apple’s style. Although the new, friendlier voice might raise some concerns about making the AI seem too human, the lack of an eerie face is a good thing. When ChatGPT talks, the black dot changes into a waveform, and when the user talks, the prompt area does the same. This design makes the interaction feel more like a real conversation while hiding the complex technology inside. Fortunately, the dot doesn’t turn into a big eye for video analysis; instead, it shows a live view of what it “sees.”
Using a circular design isn’t new. Apple’s Siri and Meta’s AI are also round. So, there’s no need to overthink this choice. For example, Google’s Gemini uses a sparkle, and Anthropic’s Claude doesn’t have any visual form at all.
