New Delhi: OpenAI, the Parent company of ChatGPT, has raised a staggering $40 billion in a new funding round led by SoftBank Group Corp. and other major investors. This investment brings OpenAI’s total valuation to an incredible $300 billion, nearly doubling its previous worth of $157 billion from October.
CEO Sam Altman reported that “hundreds of millions of people use ChatGPT every week,” and this investment will assist OpenAI in making AI even more helpful in everyday life. SoftBank is leading the charge with $7.5 billion, and another $2.5 billion is being contributed by investors such as Microsoft, Coatue Management, Altimeter Capital, and Thrive Capital.
There is also a second investment round due at the end of 2025, injecting another $30 billion, with SoftBank putting in $22.5 billion and other investors injecting $7.5 billion.
With this massive funding injection, OpenAI is poised to take AI research even deeper. This may translate into improved iterations of ChatGPT, more intelligent AI utilities, and innovative technologies that further embed AI in daily life.
