New Delhi: A new report says smartphone maker OnePlus might soon be exiting the Indian market, which could be a part of the big restructuring by its parent company Oppo across the globe, with the plan to exit by 2027. If this report is indeed accurate, it means it’s the end of OnePlus’ quest in one of its biggest markets around the world.
According to the latest report, Oppo will be rolling out the closing of its business in the majority of global markets in the coming year. This is expected to encompass India, as the company says it will be relocating from the United States and Europe. China will be the sole RMB top market where OnePlus will keep doing business.
Ever since its launch in India in 2014, the market has been key for OnePlus. The company was able to create a niche for itself because of the excellent quality of its handsets and somewhat reduced price. It is the popularity of brands such as the Nord series, OnePlus 3, and the OnePlus 7 series that helped the brand gain the top footing among the most popular premium smartphone makers in India.
Though this report has raised concerns among OnePlus users, it is worth noting that OnePlus itself hasn’t officially confirmed its withdrawal from India. As of now, all we’ve got are reports from individuals in the know about Oppo’s plans, and no official word comes from either OnePlus or Oppo. If Oppo follows through on the proposed plan, it may concentrate on its line of products in territories that already have OnePlus. Current OnePlus customers will also be provided with software updates and customer support for their phones, but nothing has been officially released so far.
For the time being, OnePlus situationally keeps on dealing with phones and other items in India.
