OnePlus 15R Review: The performance beast that just won’t die

New Delhi: OnePlus has built an impressive reputation with its most popular R series as the go-to choice for those seeking flagship performance without the premium price tag that all of the users wanted. The OnePlus 15R continues this tradition, positioning itself between the ultra-premium number series and the budget-conscious market. After extensive testing, here’s whether this phone lives up to the hype. Now what’s get in the box the OnePlus 15R arrives in the signature red packaging with everything user need: the phone itself, a matching soft case, an 80-watt SuperVOOC fast charger, a Type-A to Type-C cable, and a SIM ejector tool. It’s refreshing to see a complete package in an era where many manufacturers are cutting corners.

Build Quality

The design language is closely resembles the OnePlus 13, though it now features the Plus Key instead of the traditional alert slider that we get in OnePlus 13. The moment you hold the device, the premium quality becomes evident. The mint green and charcoal black variants feature a glass back with a matte finish, while the India-exclusive electric violet comes with a fiberglass back. The glass back has a practical advantage with minor scratches from keys or coins can be gently wiped away. The charcoal black variant features micro arc oxidation, a manufacturing process that blasts thousands of volts of electricity onto the frame, creating a ceramic-like coating that feels incredibly soft to the touch.

At 218-220 grams, the phone feels surprisingly light considering with its massive battery, the device boasts IP68 and IP69K ratings, the highest level of dust and water protection available on smartphones present. This is a significant upgrade from last year’s OnePlus 13R, which only has the IP65 protection.

Battery Life

The most standout feature is its undoubtedly the 7,400 mAh battery. While the Chinese Ace model gets an even larger 8,300 mAh cell, the Indian variant’s capacity is still much impressive and surpasses even the flagship OnePlus 15. During heavy daily use including 5G connectivity, gaming, content consumption, and social media scrolling, the phone consistently delivered over a day of battery life with 8.5 hours of screen-on time. The 80-watt fast charging takes approximately 45 minutes for a full charge. With this kind of battery capacity, you can genuinely forget about carrying chargers or power banks for two-day trips.

Software Experience

Running Oxygen OS 16 based on Android 16, the software experience is one of the highlights. The new Flux Themes 2.0 offers extensive lock screen customization options practical features include quick widget access by tapping and holding the home screen, allowing user to add shortcuts like PhonePe’s QR scanner or favorite contacts in messaging apps. File sharing has been refreshed with a tap-to-share feature that works with other OnePlus and Oppo devices as well, and even with the iPhones with the OnePlus Connect app installed. MacBook users can also install the app to cast their screen and share files seamlessly, bridging the ecosystem gap between Android phones and Apple computers. AI features are integrated thoughtfully, the gallery now includes a AI Studio for adjusting framing, removing unwanted objects, and enhancing photo resolution. The MindSpace feature analyzes on-screen context when you press the Plus Key, offering smart suggestions like adding restaurant reservations to your calendar.

Performance

The OnePlus 15R is the first phone that features with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, positioned between the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in terms of performance. It includes an extra touch response chip and a dedicated Wi-Fi connectivity chip, borrowed from the flagship OnePlus 15. The AnTuTu benchmark score of approximately 2.77 million confirms its capabilities. Gaming performance is exceptional, means Genshin Impact runs at 120 fps on the highest settings with Vulkan graphics enabled. Call of Duty Mobile achieves a native 165 fps thanks to OnePlus’s partnership with the game developers. Delta Force runs smoothly at 120 fps, and Wuthering Waves performs well at 60 fps with Vulkan graphics support. Remarkably, even after playing four demanding games back-to-back on this phone for 15 minutes each, the phone maintained temperatures between 33-36 degrees Celsius, far lower than benchmark tests suggested.

The OnePlus 15R uses an LTPS AMOLED display instead of the LTPO panel found in the 13R. While LTPO displays can adjust refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz for the better battery efficiency, the LTPS panel switches between 16, 90, and 120Hz. However, with a 7,400 mAh battery, this difference becomes negligible. The 6.83-inch display delivers 1,800 nits peak brightness, drops to 1 nit minimum, and offers excellent outdoor visibility. The camera setup includes the same main and ultra-wide sensors as the OnePlus 13R but loses the 2x telephoto lens. In practice, the 2x digital crop on the OnePlus 15R produces results remarkably similar to the OnePlus 13R’s dedicated telephoto lens in good lighting. The main camera captures detailed 26MP photos in bright conditions, with natural colors and skin tones. The 32MP front camera that includes autofocus, and video recording maxes out at 4K 120fps on the rear camera and 4K 30fps on the front.

Final Review

The OnePlus 15R starts at ₹47,900, dropping to ₹44,900 with bank offers. While this represents a ₹2,000-3,000 increase from last year, it’s modest compared to the ₹20,000 price hikes seen elsewhere in the market. The R series has always been about reliable, all-around performance, and the 15R delivers with its focus on performance, build quality, and battery life. While the camera rates as a solid seven out of ten, everything else scores eight to nine out of ten. For those seeking flagship performance without breaking the bank, the OnePlus 15R remains a compelling choice that lives up to the R series legacy.
