New Delhi: Android users who use third-party applications to open documents. WhatsApp has officially confirmed that it is testing a new feature that will provide some relief to Android users, as the company is currently testing in-app document scanning. Additionally, this will eliminate the need to use external applications for scanning documents and offer a more streamlined experience directly within WhatsApp itself.
This document scanning function was initially discovered in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.18.29 during its early development and testing phase. It progressed to the public testing with the latest updates. Several beta users have reported being able to access the latest feature after downloading the new version from the Google Play Store.
Through these latest updates, a newly Scan Document feature has been added to the attachment menu, appearing beside the existing Browse Documents and Choose from the Gallery options. Tapping this latest function launches the camera on the user’s Android device, allowing users to capture photos for direct document sharing.
This latest feature provides two shooting options, manual and automatic. In manual mode, users can decide exactly when to snap the picture, while automatic mode allows WhatsApp to identify the document’s edges and capture the image on its own, streamlining the scanning process.
After the photo is taken, WhatsApp quickly processes the image and transforms it into a PDF format. This makes the file instantly shareable in either individual chats or group messages. The complete scanning and conversion workflow will happen directly on the user’s phone, utilising Android’s native document capture APIs.
