New Delhi: Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma has recently announced that the next-generation Xbox console will be able to run both Xbox and PC games. On the X platform, Asha Sharma has written that the Project Helix, the official codename for the next-gen Xbox, will lead in performance and will be able to play both Xbox and PC games.
Microsoft has earlier indicated that the next Xbox would be some hybrid of console and PC, and this confirmation from Asha Sharma falls in line with it.
It was also stated that the company intends to revisit its foundation with a renewed focus on the Xbox console, acknowledging the role the platform has played in shaping the brand’s identity. The memo has also suggested that gaming today has been extended across multiple devices instead of being confined to a single piece of hardware, referring to Xbox’s recent strategy of expanding its titles to competing platforms.
It was suggested that the concerns raised by the fans regarding the limited number of Xbox-exclusive titles have been taken into account.
Its upcoming generation of Xbox hardware will heavily narrow the gap between conventional consoles and PC. Devices such as the Xbox Ally handhelds are seen as an initial move in that direction. Recently, the company has rolled out the Xbox Full Screen Experience for Windows 11 PCs and handheld gaming systems.
The FSE Xbox interface unveils the controller-focused layout that resembles a traditional console environment. The interface prioritises controller-based navigation and offers a full-screen, gaming-oriented space designed for discovering and launching titles.
The release timeline, while Asha Sharma did not provide any clear timeline for the debut of Project Helix. AMD has indicated that it could be prepared to support the release around 2027. It still remains unclear whether the console itself will arrive in that timeframe.
