New Delhi: In today’s era, AI is capturing all the work of people, from designing posts to email replies. Now, Google is also utilising AI for many mundane tasks that humans must perform in modern times, such as responding to routine emails. In an interview at the SXSW London festival, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis confirmed that the team is utilising the power of generative AI to make the next generation of email. In his words, Hassabis says that the mail of the future will take care of responding to mundane emails in your voice.
The thing they want and are working on is a next-generation email. They would love to get the ID of their emails. They have to pay thousands of dollars per month to get rid of that, said Hassabis when asked about their view on the usefulness of AI in the future. They said that AI can cure all diseases and solve the climate crisis, but there are other mundane issues, like responding to emails, that need to be addressed first.
Hassabis asked how the AI would handle critical emails, and he said that it would help understand what the bread-and-butter emails are and provide answers in your style, as well as make some of the easier decisions.
Although no further information was shared, it seems that DeepMind still has work to do on the project before making it public. However, if the feature is ready, Google could deploy it as part of its premium AI subscription model and eventually release it for the free tier users. Google’s email client, Gmail, already offers integrated Gen-AI reply suggestions for making email bodies sound nicer depending on the chosen tone of voice.
Hassabis has also shed light on how AI could help with digital detoxing in the future. They are very excited about the idea of a universal AI assistant that knows them well, enriches their lives by providing excellent recommendations, and helps with mundane chores, such as managing essential emails. It gives them more time and protects your attention from other algorithms trying to gain your attention. They believe we can utilise AI in the service of the individual.
