New Delhi: Yamaha India has silently discounted its Yamaha YZF-R3 and the MT-03 in India. The company has stopped importing both motorcycles, and multiple Yamaha dealerships across the country have confirmed that they no longer have any inventory of either model. The Yamaha R3 and MT-03 were debuted in India as CBU units, positioning them as the brand’s entry point in the middleweight segment. However, due to their high asking price, they witnessed limited demand, and sales volumes remained low throughout their lifecycle in India.
Both the motorcycles were launched at the steep price point of Rs 4.65 lakh for the R3 and Rs 4.60 lakh for the MT-03 ex-showroom. Earlier this year, Yamaha announced a significant price cut of Rs 1.10 lakh in an effort to make its models more competitive. This was followed by another reduction of Rs 20,000 after GST revisions. Despite these efforts, the motorcycle failed to gain the much-needed traction, ultimately leading to its discontinuation.
At the present stage, Yamaha only has the R15, MT-15, and the recently launched XSR 155 in the entry-level performance segment. Yamaha is also expected to launch the latest R3 and MT-03 in India around mid-2026. The latest Yamaha R3 gets refreshed styling and more features. Until then, buyers looking for Yamaha motorcycles in this segment will have to wait.
