New Delhi: The Bing wallpaper application by Microsoft was first made available in 2020, then brought to the Microsoft Store in 2024, but users might want to think twice about this thing, especially if users hate that malicious behaviour. The Bing wallpaper application is fine if it offers a wide range of photos from sources like Getty Images and National Geographic, along with AI-generated images, that users can use as wallpapers for their Windows 11 desktop background.
But in a recent update to the application has introduced mindblowing dumb feature that surely no one actually asked for clicking anywhere on the desktop open an new browser tab with the Bing search for the whatever is in the wallpaper, furthermore, upon installation the application asks to set Bing as their default homepage and their default search engine for the Edge, Chrome, and Firefox. Fortunately, users can turn off the desktop click search behaviour in Bing Wallpaper’s settings. Look for the one labelled desktop. Click opens Bing. Users can also turn off Microsoft’s recommendations and the news feed, which are also enabled by default.
This is not the first time it has happened. in Bing Wallpaper application has been slammed for disgusting behavior, back in November 2024, when it first came to Microsoft Store, it was called as predatory and borderline malware for doing thing like tapping into browser cookies, installing the Bing Visual search extension, changing the browser settings, and setting Edge as default browser.
